Protests, rallies and riots have been going on in Berkeley and the University of California, Berkeley, since the 1960s. Berkeley has been a place where people are passionate about people's rights, free speech and activism, which has had national implications and led to the counterculture era throughout the 1960s-70s.

When moving to the Bay Area in 2014 I was aware of the history of the area but have now first hand experienced the passion, rage and anger recent political events have stirred. When we think of Berkeley protests we think of the Civil rights movement, the Free speech movement, the Vietnam war protests, Black lives matter and most recent rallies.

Bravery in the face of adversity is the thing that leads to change, nothing changes by doing nothing at all, at some stage in our lives or throughout history we must stand up, make ourselves uncomfortable and do the difficult thing to make a positive change. Although it's a shame to see people resort to violence it sometimes seems to be the only way that people take notice that what's going on today in the year 2017 is not right.

We can learn lessons from history and avoid resorting to violence. We should all make a stand and do our best to rise above the nonsense impacting our futures. We need to move forward as one species.We all have all of the potential there is, there is no limit to what we can achieve as individuals and together.
